I really liked the premise of the plot and the interesting background of small town Nugget in Going Home. The way Stacy included some of Nugget's somewhat horrifying history really brought the place to life!Both of the main characters, Maddy and Rhys are strong. They come from very different backgrounds, but that doesn't stop the attraction they have for each other. In present day they have very different lives too though. Maddy has goals, and they are centered around her new life in Nugget. Rhys is only back in Nugget temporarily, and is counting down the days until he can leave again. Seeing these two together and the push and pull of their budding relationship made Going Home a lively read. I felt that both of them and their struggles were realistic and believable. I could understand the reactions both of them had to their own circumstances, and these reactions made Maddy and Rhys real.
I liked that the focus of Going Home was not entirely on Maddy and Rhys' relationship. They both have a lot of other things going on that they are dealing with...some things very unexpected!
There are a lot of secondary characters in Going Home as well as sub plots, but they are all relevant to the main plot and Stacy ties it all together smoothly. The characters and town of Nugget are certainly quirky, adding tension and uncertainty to the main plot. I liked how Stacy did this, it made Nugget seem like a place that could be anywhere!
Stacy kept the plot moving, not giving away everything all at once, but keeping me intrigued and interested. I felt like I really got to know Rhys and Maddy. I could easily picture Nugget and the places Stacy describes in Going Home.
A well paced, great start to a series, I'd recommend Going Home to any romance reader especially if you like small town settings and all the dynamics they entail!

Maddy’s new career is a lot like her life … in need of some rehabilitation and TLC! She moves to Nugget to purchase and rehab an old Victorian home with her brother, with the intention of turning it into a luxury hotel, but many in the community are less than receptive to the idea. Rhys is an up-and-coming detective in the Houston police force who moves, temporarily, back to his hometown of Nugget to assist his ailing father. While there, he accepts an appointment to Chief of Police, with every intention that it be temporary.
Rhys is immediately attracted to Maddy, and it works out so beautifully that he can offer her a place to rent while her business in town is being remodeled. He knows that he is just a short-timer in Nugget, but their chemistry is strong and he just can’t stay away. He also tries to encourage her and give her advice when it seems that so much of the town is against her and her business.
Maddy and Rhys are not the only characters in this book. We are introduced to several more who have their story told later in the series. I actually read book 2, Finding Hope, before this one and that was so exceptional, that I went back and read this one as well. (Book 3, Second Chances, is also excellent!) Each book in this series is very well written, the men are swoon-worthy, and there is the perfect amount of humor intertwined with the perfect amount of passion and heat. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this book and series – I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it!

In the wake of her failed marriage, Maddy finds Rhys to be the man she can count on while turning the Lumbar Baron into a hotel, but will she fall apart when he goes back to Houston? Will Rhys be able to leave Maddy and his new found sister and brother and turn down the police chief position in Nugget for the Lieutenant’s position in Houston?
This debut novel is a 4 ½ star beginning to the start of a new series A Nugget Romance that takes place in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, in Nugget, California. In Book 1, we find Maddy Breyer and her brother restoring a Victorian Mansion to become a Hotel and Rhys Shepard coming back from Houston to become the temporary Chief of Police. As the remodel occurs, Maddy needs a place to stay and Rhys just happens to have an empty duplex to lease to her whilst he takes care of his father’s future medical necessities.
The plot is well written and keeps your interest. The characters are likable. Hopefully as future novels take place some of the backgrounds of some of the other players in Nugget will fill in as their story is told. Maddy and Rhys were filled in to a good degree and have given the town a basis to start a series. I wish there were more on Sam and Lina. I do like that you will have to read to the very end to fill in some of the questions you will have when reading. I love even more that there is not a life or death cliff hanger. Do not get me wrong, I want to read the next book, Finding Hope A Nugget Romance Book 2. I will read it, it just did not take a life or death cliffhanger, it took a good first book.
Is this novel for you? Do you like a strong woman? Can you take a little violence, it has a super hot police chief as a male lead? Do you want sad with your happy, not necessarily in that order? Do you like a little steamy adult action? This romance just might be for you!
